Radio Calls While Flying

Below are samples of most of my radio calls from my January 21, 1999 flight, which consisted of me going up with my instructor for a few laps around the pattern, landing, dropping my instructor off at the Terminal, going up for a few laps around the pattern by myself, and landing again. (All sounds are .wav format)

Inital Ground Call
Size:127K
Ann Arbor Ground, good afternoon, Cessna 222UM at the Northwest Tees ready to taxi to active with x-ray
Cessna 222UM, Ann Arbor Ground, taxi to runway 6
Taxi to 6, 2UM, thanks
This is my first call to the ground controller today, so following a greeting, I tell them where I am (Northwest Tee Hangers), where I want to go (the active runway) and that I have information X (information X is the weather that gets updated every hour - each hour it is given a different letter so the controllers know you have the current information). The controller tells me to taxi to runway 6, and I acknowledge and verify by repeating the instructions
Initial Tower Call
Size:133K
Ann Arbor Tower, good afternoon, Cessna 222UM holding short of 6 ready for departure, staying in the pattern
Cessna 2UM, Ann Arbor Tower, hold short - traffic landing
Holding short, 2UM
This is my first call to the tower controller for the day, so after a greeting I tell them that I am holding short (at the entrance of) runway 6, that I'm ready to take-off, and that I'll be staying in the landing pattern rather than flying to another airport. The tower tells me to hold short (don't move) because a plane is about to land - it would be bad for me to get in it's way. Again, I acknowledge and verify my instructions by repeating them
Cleared For Takeoff
Size:56K
Cessna 2UM, follow the Cessna on the upwind, right close traffic, clear for takeoff
Clear for takeoff, 2UM
The runway is now clear for me to take off - I am supposed to follow the Cessna on the upwind (the one that just took off), fly a pattern close to and to the right of the runway.
Cleared For Touch and Go
Size:53K
Cessna 2UM, clear touch and go
Clear touch and go, 2UM
About halfway around the landing pattern, the tower controller tells me I'm clear for a touch and go (touching down and taking off again without stopping)
Number 4 To Land
Size:111K
Cessna 2UM, number 4, traffic - follow the helicopter at a left downwind for runway 6
Number 4, 2UM, we're looking for traffic
The tower is telling me I'm 4th in line to land - number three is a helicopter that will eventually be making a left turn for the runway
Amend Sequence
Size:82K
Cessna 2UM, amend your sequence - number 2 to follow the Cessna 1 mile final
Number 2, we have the traffic, 2UM
The tower changed its mind - now I'm second in line, landing right behind a Cessna that's just about to land
Cleared To Land
Size:191K
Cessna 2UM, number 2, Cessna traffic 1 mile final
Number 2, 2UM, we're looking for traffic - also we'd like a full stop on this one
2UM, roger
2UM has the traffic
Cessna 2UM, roger, number 2, clear to land
Number 2, clear to land, 2UM
The controller is repeating the sequencing - at this point I tell the tower that I'd prefer to do a normal full stop landing rather than a touch and go. I also inform the tower that I have sighted the Cessna (traffic) that I'm supposed to follow
Switch To Ground
Size:56K
Cessna 2UM, contact ground point 6
Contact ground point 6, g'day
Most airport ground frequencies are 121.something - in this case it is 121.6 - the controller just abbreviates it to "point 6". G'day is a common (and more friendly) way of saying "We're done talking to you on this frequency - you can change to another"
Taxi To Terminal Ramp
Size:117K
Ann Arbor Ground, Cessna 222UM at the midpoint of 6 ready to taxi to terminal ramp
Cessna 222UM, Ann Arbor Ground, taxi to terminal ramp, good day
Taxi to terminal ramp, 2UM, thanks
After exiting runway 6 half way down, I ask the ground controller if I can taxi to the terminal building (so I can drop off my instructor). She gleefully permits me to do so.
Initial Ground Call
Size:191K
Ann Arbor Ground, Cessna 222UM at the terminal ramp ready to taxi to active
Cessna calling Ann Arbor Ground say again
Cessna 222UM at the terminal ramp ready to taxi to active
Cessna 222UM, Ann Arbor Ground, taxi to runway 6
Taxi to 6, 2UM
After dropping off my instructor, it's time to head back to the runway - The ground controller was busy with something else on my initial callup, so they asked me to repeat my request
Initial Tower Call
Size:145K
Ann Arbor Tower, Cessna 222UM holding short of 6 ready for takeoff in the pattern
Cessna 222UM, Ann Arbor Tower, follow the helicopter in the upwind, right close traffic, clear for takeoff
Clear for takeoff, 2UM
Same thing as when I took off the first time, except I don't have to wait. I'm cleared to take off and follow a helicopter that just departed and stay in a close landing pattern to the right of the runway
Just before landing
Size:36K
Cessna 2UM, one departure prior to your arrival
Roger that
Before I did my final landing, the controller wanted to get one more plane in the air, so he basically told me not to rush on my landing since another plane would be taking off from the runway I was landing on before I got there
Switch To Ground
Size:61K
Cessna 2UM, turn left next intersection, contact ground point 6
Wilco, g'day, 2UM
The tower's last words to me for the day - telling me to get off the runway at the next intersection with a taxiway and to switch to the ground frequency - 121.6. Wilco is just short for "I will comply"
Taxi To Northwest Tees
Size:107K
Ann Arbor Ground, Cessna 222UM at the midpoint of 6 ready to taxi to Northwest Tees
Cessna 222UM, Ann Arbor Ground, taxi to Northwest Tees
2UM
I'm all done, so I ask the ground controller if I may taxi back to the Northwest Tee hangers. I acknowledge my permission simply by repeating the ID of my plane.
